Our own Rich Fordon was in Geneva wearing a super cool and unusual unsigned watch with a strap that slides sideways out of the case. The Tank is called the Tank because it looks like a tank – specifically, the Renault FT, which military historians often call the first modern tank. It had a fully rotating turret, and on each side of the hull, an enormous set of caterpillar treads that projected well beyond the front and back of the vehicle. But more than two centuries would pass before improvements in construction and design, as well as the invention of the lever and detent escapements and widespread use of the balance spring, would make seconds hands practical in watches. Having gotten to know Keegan's collection pretty well, I was wondering what he'd show up wearing for our recording session. His choice didn't disappoint: he rolled up in his Tesla wearing a Rolex GMT-Master ref. 1675 with the bright blueberry bezel. He knows that this is a watch with some contested history, but he loves it and has all the proof he needs to enjoy wearing it around LA and the world. There are few collections of watches that offer better value across the board than Seiko's Presage collection. You get beautifully designed watches with solid movements and various extra little touches for generally affordable prices. Back in 2017, Seiko introduced a collection of stainless steel watches that featured fired white enamel dials in a few different configurations. The burn was timed so accurately that Apollo 13's command module and her crew successfully splashed down only a mile from the intended recovery point and just three-and-a-half nautical miles from the recovery ship Iwo Jima. To acknowledge the contribution Omega's Speedmaster made to the successful completion of the mission, the crew presented a Silver Snoopy Award to Omega in 1970.
The watch, I read, was designed in collaboration with the elite French combat diver's team, Commando Hubert (the unit is named after Lieutenant Augustin Hubert, who was killed in action on D-Day off Sword Beach) and presumably those folks know their business, but the accumulation of somewhat outré details seemed a little deliberately willful. Every Thursday, at 11:00 AM ET, we highlight six different watches that have recently landed in HODINKEE Pre-Owned. This week, our friends in the HODINKEE Shop wanted to highlight a selection of watches related to this week's releases at Watches & Wonders – check them out, right here. We've highlighted a few of our favorites from their selection, below. 2mm in diameter and 15.6mm thick and costing nearly $150,000. This is not the kind of watch that I could see myself wearing with any regularity, but it nonetheless gives me joy. The slim sections of bridges expand out from the center like lattice work and there's so much negative space in the case that it's a little disorienting at first. Finally – and as the Monty Python gang used to say, "and now for something completely different"– we have the Richard Mille RM 033 Extra Flat Automatic.

Though the blued steel hands which trace the spartan Arabic numeral–clad dial are attractive, the real star of the show here is the case. Though on the smaller side, its architecture is nothing short of stunning, thanks to its unusual, protruding lugs, which likely make the watch feel larger on the wrist than it actually is.
