Discover the world of luxury watches and timepieces
golden watch for men
In 2012, another sold for $799,500, and we called that insane. This? Of course paying $2 million for a watch is certainly insane, but this wasn't surprising at all. Will it spur a re-birth of the vintage Heuer market? That's another story. One we'll cover soon enough. In 2011, Jay-Z and Kanye West told us that "Bueller had a Mueller / but I switched it for a Mille cause I'm richer," in "Gotta Have It"; and Pharrell (who is not stranger to fine luxury timepieces) raps with French Montana in their song "Bring Dem Things," "Y'all be Bapein' / I be human-made and / y'all be APin' / I'm Richard Mille nation / No Diamonds, just tourbillon facing / with gears and This watch makes total strategic sense, entering the sport-chic segment where the Royal Oak and Nautilus are blossoming, though again at a lower price for a different customer. The white-gold case is polished basically everywhere, which jives with its classical appeal. I applaud Vacheron for not updating this watch with brushed surfaces. On the underside of the case is an exhibition caseback providing a window to the hand-wound calibre 4400 AS. The display back is wide, giving a full view of the movement. I like the singular focus on the craftsmanship and technique behind the dial, and that everything else is chosen or designed with restraint. An obscure refurbished mid-century movement could fit into the brand ethos of "Old Crafts, New Hands" but instead anOrdain elected a movement that represents the ultimate in reliability and value. As these large Swiss brands have moved upmarket, it's left an opportunity for smaller makers, like Chicago's Oak & Oscar, founded by Chase Fancher in 2015. On average, the brand's prices have stayed under $2,000. Fancher says that his customers are buying his watches because they connect with its design and the story of him and the small team he's built. While it adds to the vintage ideal that this watch seems to be going for, to my mind, a more conventional crown design at a smaller size would not have taken away from the overall look of this piece. Price: $28,000Availability: Leica stores worldwide starting today. Limited Edition: 50 pieces. While it's certainly a shame there isn't a new crop of lunar-minded astronauts primed to earn one of these following a 50th-anniversary mission, the Speedmaster Apollo 11 50th Anniversary Limited Edition is a shining look back at a golden era in exploration and the race for the moon. Front and center is the oversized regatta countdown subdial, still very much the heart of the design, albeit relocated from three o'clock on the original to nine o'clock on the modern iterations. As opposed to the clean printing we know and love, seconde/seconde has opted for a hand-painted finish that mimics graffiti.
It manages to be a damn fun watch with a modern flair, but all neatly carried out within the restraints of its heritage inspiration. I was lucky to get my hands on one and it's rarely left my wrist since. compre réplicas de reloj Quick Take: You know I love the countdown bezel! So you'll hear no complaints from me that Tudor ended up with this year's dive watch prize. Revisit when Hodinkee contributor Allen Farmelo took it diving, earlier this year.
